WHY NEED EXTERIOR DOOR PLANS?
Engineering Plans are needed for exterior doors to protect against things like head/cold, fire, forced entry, wind, flood, even seismic conditions.
Exterior doors are typically tested to meet rigorous state & national standards before installation. Some doors receive product approval from evaluation services like the ICC, Miami Dade, Florida, Texas, IAPMO, and ADA standards to name a few.
INTERIOR DOORS TOO
Interior doors need planning for as well. Besides their use as privacy, interior doors have sound transmission ratings, egress considerations, even fire resistance, something typically needed for interior doors from a garage to the home.
Door handles provide a wide range of ways to enter and exist rooms considering accessibility, panic options, even breakaway, sliding, and bi-folding considerations for interior and exterior doors.
Types of Doors
Doors can be interior or exterior, but that’s where the easy categorization ends.
The list of door types is endless. Forbes publishes an article explaining door types which can be found by clicking here.

Exterior doors are of primary concern for engineers, architects & design professionals for the protection of the structure and those inside. Extensive testing is performed on exterior doors to protect against storm forces, fires, floods, forced entry, and even air leakage, and thermal protection for energy efficiency.
